☀️ Spiritual Origin guide

Vedic vs Western Astrology

Vedic and Western astrology are related but distinct traditions. The largest technical difference is usually the zodiac reference, while practice, interpretation and timing methods also vary.

Tropical and sidereal zodiacs

Most Western astrology uses a tropical zodiac anchored to the seasons. Many Jyotish practitioners use a sidereal zodiac that accounts for precession with an ayanamsa. This makes placements differ by roughly a sign in many cases.

Different emphases

Western practice often foregrounds psychological symbolism, aspects and transits. Jyotish commonly uses nakshatras, dashas and a different approach to houses and planetary strength. Neither summary represents every practitioner.

How to compare responsibly

Use the same birth data and record the zodiac, ayanamsa and house method. Compare themes instead of searching for a single “correct” label. Spiritual Origin provides multiple lenses as reflective tools.

Questions people ask

Is Vedic astrology more accurate than Western astrology?

Why is my sign different?
